Austin Davis named Auburn’s next Offensive Coordinator

Bryan Harsin named the now former Seattle Seahawks Quarterbacks Coach, Austin Davis, as the Tiger’s next offensive coordinator, the second of the Bryan Harsin Era at Auburn. Davis, a former quarterback in the National Football League for seven seasons, has been a coach with the Seattle Seahawks organization for the past three seasons.

"From the first conversation I had with Austin, you could just feel his passion for coaching and teaching the game," Harsin said. "He's spent the past 10 years as a player or coach in the NFL, bringing that experience from the highest level into our offensive and quarterback rooms. He's learned and been around some of the best in the business and has been on an upward trajectory since joining the coaching ranks. We can't wait to get him teamed up with the rest of our staff."

Austin Davis, a native of Collinsville, Mississippi, played quarterback at Southern Miss, under head coach Larry Fedora, from 2007-2011. As a starter, Davis was able to lead the Golden Eagles to a combined record of 33-19 with wins in the New Orleans and Hawaii Bowls.

"What a great hire by Bryan Harsin and Auburn. Austin Davis is a tireless worker who will be innovative in his offensive approach. He has that 'it' factor as a leader and mentor everyone wants,” Fedora said. “Austin is an overachiever in everything he attacks, whether that's being a walk-on quarterback and leading his team to a conference championship or being an undrafted free agent in the NFL only to prove folks wrong and play seven years at the highest level. I know his character, his knack for developing strong relationships and the quality of his work on the offensive side of the ball. Austin will make Auburn fans proud."

Austin Davis faced off against the Tigers during the 2008 season, going 33-50 with 268 yards through the air, with two touchdowns and two interceptions in a loss at Jordan-Hare Stadium 27-18. At the end of the 2011 season, a C-USA Championship season for the Golden Eagles, Davis would go undrafted and would sign with the St. Louis Rams. During his seven seasons in the NFL, Austin Davis would be apart of seven different organizations before becoming a Assistant Quarterbacks Coach with the Seattle Seahawks, a team he played for during the 2017 season.

Under Davis’s coaching, Russell Wilson threw for over 4,000 yards during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Wilson has had an average completion percentage of 67.45 and 71 total touchdowns during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Wilson also earned All-Pro Honors at the conclusion of the 2019 season. This season, Russell Wilson has missed multiple games due to injury.

"I think Austin is going to be a brilliant offensive coordinator and potential head coach one day, Russell Wilson said. “He has a passion for the game, number one. Number two, he's got an understanding of the game as he's played the position at the highest level in the National Football League. And three, he's an amazing teacher. He's an amazing teacher of the game. He keeps it simple in terms of relaxing the quarterback's mind. He'll be an amazing coach at Auburn."

Davis was also drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st Round of the 2012 MLB Draft but, never ended up playing professional baseball as he pursued a career in the National Football League.
