A classic SEC West showdown will take place on Halloween night inside Jordan-Hare Stadium between the Tigers of Auburn and the Tigers of LSU on the SEC on CBS Game of the Week at 3:30ET/2:30CT. This will be the first non-ranked matchup between the two Tigers since 2001. LSU is currently on a three game winning streak against Auburn but, won the last three matchups by a total of eight points. The Auburn Tigers are coming off a big win on the road at Ole Miss last Saturday 35-28. Auburn relied heavily on their running game last Saturday, led by Tank Bigsby with 129 yards on 24 carries. Last week, LSU debuted their freshman quarterback TJ Finley. The LSU offense was able to roll over a good South Carolina defense, which Auburn struggled with earlier this season, scoring 52 points with 541 yards of offense. With both offenses finding their strides last weekend this matchup might come down to the defenses. The Auburn defense is the only defense left in the SEC that has yet to give up more than 30 points in a ball game. LSU has had to deal with a Covid postponement this season when the Tigers didn’t get to go down to Gainesville to play the top ten Gators, two weeks ago. That bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for the Tigers, after losing on the road to Missouri, which, had a week off to reevaluate things instead of most likely getting beat again by Florida. Auburn on the other will be playing their sixth straight SEC game this Saturday. Gus Malzahn has yet to beat Ed Orgeron since Coach O was named the head coach at LSU. Since Auburn and LSU started playing every year in 1992, LSU has had three 3-game winning streaks against Auburn but, has never been able to stretch any of the streaks to four. One would think with all of the bizarre games and endings that have shaped this rivalry into one of the best in the game, that this year’s matchup, in one of the craziest seasons in college football, on Halloween night, will certainly be at the least an entertaining one.
